ICRD Orphans’ Program Launched
According to Mercy Relief, Yemen has over 1.1 million orphans. Most of these children are orphaned due to the brutal war which has severely affected the civilians. The kids are not only left to fend for themselves, but some are also left homeless after displacement. Orphans are vulnerable and they also need care and support to live fulfilling lives. But this is only possible if you and I join hands.
On the 8th of September 2020, a one-year care program for orphans under the age of thirteen years was launched. The inauguration took place in Al Nadera district, Ibb Governorate, where the monthly food basket and school bag were distributed. The inauguration coincided with the beginning of the school year. Thanks to the working group, which made great efforts in reaching the various villages of the Directorate.
Why Orphan Program is a Necessity
Most orphans in Yemen do not have relatives to look after them. Therefore, they are left vulnerable and at the risk of dropping out of school. Illiteracy can lead to a vicious cycle of poverty for the orphaned children.
According to Yemen Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation (MOPIC), the country has reported over 11,000 deaths as a result of war. Most of the deceased are breadwinners in families that have little to live on. The results are not only devastating to the children but also destabilizing and disheartening.
Because of the many years of war, Yemen is the world’s humanitarian crisis from the constant civil war and external attacks. The situation has led to hunger, malnutrition and poor health care services, which makes it worse. Children have also lost parents due to the trickle-down effects of the war.
Can You Join Us?
The launch of International Council for Relief and Development (ICRD) Orphan Program was the first step in a journey of a thousand miles. The train has left the station and we are calling upon more donors to join us in this course.
You can be a partaker of the reward that comes with taking care of the vulnerable. Become one of our donors and we can make a bigger impact. Children who used to enjoy the warm embrace of fathers and mothers are now languishing in poverty. You can be the source of their next meal, clothing, or medical supply. Take a step and together we will increase the number of sponsored children under our program in Yemen.
